A long-established Harrogate retailer with a loyal walk-in customer base but no real digital presence. The existing site was eight years old, ran on a builder platform, took six seconds to load on mobile, and ranked nowhere for any of the search terms their customers actually used. They knew they were leaving business on the table — they just didn't know how much.

We started with two weeks of listening. We interviewed regular customers, mapped the real search journey for their product category, and audited every competitor in Harrogate, Leeds, and York. From there we built a content map that addressed the actual questions buyers were asking — not the ones the old site assumed they were asking. Design and build ran in parallel with content production, with weekly reviews. The new site launched eight weeks after kickoff.

Within ninety days we'd matched the old site's annual organic traffic. By month six we'd tripled it. More important: enquiry volume nearly tripled too. The site now ranks #3 on average for the core terms we targeted, and #1 for several. We continue to work with them on a monthly retainer covering content, performance monitoring, and ongoing SEO.

The brief, in one paragraph

A respected Harrogate retailer was watching every search they should have owned go to a national chain and a Leeds-based competitor. The conversation started with “we just need a new website” — but the real problem was strategic, not visual. We had to fix the foundations first.

What we actually did

The site itself was the easy part. The harder, longer work was the SEO foundation: keyword research grounded in real Harrogate buyer intent, technical SEO done properly, schema markup, a Google Business Profile that had been left to rot, and a content programme that turned the site from a brochure into a destination.

The numbers, six months in

Tripled organic traffic. Sub-1.5-second LCP on mobile. A Lighthouse SEO score of 100. Most importantly: a 184% increase in online enquiries, with the average value of those enquiries up too — because the new content was attracting buyers further down the funnel.

What we’re doing next

Phase two is e-commerce. Now that the site is ranking and converting, the next step is selling product online to the wider catchment we’ve started attracting. We’re starting that work in Q3.
